Obtaining Your Nevada Instructional Permit

Nearly all NV drivers under 18 years of age need to complete an approved driver education course. You can enroll in these classes at age 15. The course must be within 30 miles of your home if offered or you may complete an online course. You may use a private course or one offered at many public schools.

You can obtain your instructional (learner’s) permit at 15 years, 6 months of age. You will need to present proof of name and birth, as well as your social security number. You must pass the vision and written test to obtain your license. A complete list of acceptable documents for proof of identity and SS are available online or in the $CSLINK.

Fees

The fee for your instructional permit is $21.25.

Restrictions

You may only drive with a driver who is 21 years or older. Permits are valid for one year. You must apply for a new permit each year at your local DMV office.

Applying for a Full License

If you have a valid learner’s permit and are 16 years of age, you may apply for a full license. You must also:

• hold a valid instruction permit for at least six months prior to applying
• have no at-fault accidents in the six months prior to applying
• have no moving violation convictions in the six months prior to applying
• have no alcohol or drug convictions of any kind in the six months prior to applying
