Steps to getting a Mississippi learners permit
Gather all required proofs and visit your local DPS office in order to apply for a learners permit. Minor must be accompanied by both parents or guardians, or the custodial parent in a divorce situation. Following these steps will allow the new driver to receive a learner’s permit:
- Complete an application and submit to the clerk. Minors must have both parents or guardians sign the application and have the signatures notarized.
- Submit a social security card or approved alternative.
- Provide an original birth certificate stating full name, date of birth and place of birth.
- Two proofs of residency are required that will provide the DPS with a permanent mailing address.
- Once the documentation has been approved, a vision screening will be administered.
- The applicant will then take the written test and must pass with an 80% score or above.
- Pay the $4 permit fee and take a photograph to complete the process.
